Trustee Meeting 10th January 2010
The Liverpool Comino Centre are working with the University's student film production team to produce a DVD to disseminate how a dance project such as PATCH can work to benefit young people.
It was agreed to hold a Comino dinner in Manchester in April 2010 to bring together people or organisations who are interested in working in partnership with the Ideas Foundation and the Comino Foundation on initiatives that would help disadvantaged young people to develop their creativity.
It was noted that Lord Lawson had launched the Global Warming Policy Foundation to provide a more balanced view of the global warming debate and associated policy decisions.
A presentation was made to Alan Roberts on his retirement as Adminstrator to the Foundation with thanks for his significant contribution to the success of the Foundation over 20 years.
Trustee Meeting 9th March 2010
Sir Mike Tomlinson had chaired the inquiry into Teacher Training in Vocational Education which was launched in February 2010 by the Skills Commission.
Sir Mike Tomlinson advised that the applications to the RSA Academy has increased to 300 for the 180 places available. He also advised that the Academy would offer the International Baccalaureate.
It was noted that the RSA Academy would organise a student event to debate 'The Reality of Global Warming' on World Earth Day in April at which the Environment Fellow would make a presentation.
It was agreed that the Environment Fellow would also undertake research for the Foundation and in particular archive past support given to grantees.
Trustee Meeting 18th May 2010
Jose Chambers advised that she was retiring as Assistant Vice Chancellor of Winchester University at the end of the academic year. She proposed that the Comino Centre be located within the Centre for Real-World Learning which is based within the University.
The Manchester Dinner on 11th May was considered a success and had advanced the work of the Ideas Foundation in the North West.
Trustee Meeting 22nd July 2010
Anthony Darbyshire had visited the Indus School in Bangalore which was part of a new group of independent schools being established to create the Indian leaders of tomorrow. He had been impressed by the CEO, Lt. Gen Arjun Ray, who thought and acted as Dimitri Comino.
Sir Mike Tomlinson advised on progress with the UTCs where in addition to the JCB Academy, others had been approved for Walsall, Ashton and Greenwich.
Sir Mike Tomlinson also advised that he was taking up the role of Principal Advisor to the Ministry of Education in Abu Dhabi.
It was agreed that Anthony Darbyshire would prepare a booklet to review the life and legacy of Dimitri Comino for the 40th anniversay on 1st November 2011.
It was agreed to celbrate the 40th anniversay with a dinner at the RSA on that date.
It was agreed to invite David Perry and James Westhead to become Trustees.
Trustee Meeting 16th September 2010
Sir Mike Tomlinson was pleased the Secretary of State for Education, Michael Gove, was fully supportive of vocational education and the UTCs.
The RSA Academy had moved into its new building.
Sir Mike Tomlinson had become a Trustee of The Oxford Trust which encourages and supports innovation and works with students and teachers on sciece education.
It was agreed that the work of the Environment Fellow was largely complete.
Trustee Meeting 18th November 2010
Sir Mike Tomlinson advised that the GCSE academic results for the RSA Academy (95% achieving 5 A-C) were in the top 5% in England and 26 students went to University.
Sir Mike Tomlinson advised that he wished to stand down as a Trustee in 2011.
Heather Last had advised that she would be retiring from PACE at the end of November 2011 and would be spending most of her time in New Zealand.
