Trustee Meeting 9th December 2008
Trustee, Sir Mike Tomlinson, is to chair a commitee looking at the structure and development of the National Science Learning Centre.
It was agreed to accept, at their request, the rename of the Sheffield Comino Centre as the Sheffield Comino Centre for Personal Capability and Leadership.
It was noted that there had been over 7,000 downloads of the Climate Futures teacher support materials from the upd8 website.
Simon Bailey tendered his resignation, for personal reasons, as a Trustee of the Foundation.
Trustee Meeting 23rd September 2008
TheTipton Academy was successfully launched with a full staff complement and pupil over subscribed pupil applications. The Sandwell LEA now has 3 Academies in its area.
The STEM Leadership Qualification (Sheffield Comino Centre) will be launched at the Institute of Education on 25th November.
Ros Phillips, having retired as the Director of the Liverpool Comino Centre, had accepted the Foundation's offer to become a Comino Associate. The new Director of the Centre is Professor Diana Burton, the Provest Vice Chancellor (Delivery).
Trustee Meeting 15th July 2008
The Tipton Academy will be opened on 4th November 2008 by the Duke of Edinburgh.
Trustee, Sir Mike Tomlinson, will chair the Government committee to oversee the plans to bring 638 failing secondary schools up to 'floor target' by 2011.
Feedback regarding the Annual Conference held on July 2nd/3rd indicated that it was very successful and was highly valued with plans for further collaboration between grantees being set in motion.
It is planned to hold the 2009 Annual conference at the same venue in the first or second week of July.
The STEM Leadership Qualification (Sheffield Comino Centre) is proving popular.
Wigan Comino Centre plan to include this award in the Foundation Learning Tier that is being piloted for low attainers.
Sheffield CSE (Sheffield Comino Centre) is to launch a national campaign to reinforce Science as a core subject in primary schools.

Trustee Meeting 20th May 2008
The Tipton Academy is scheduled to open on 4th November 2008 in the existing buildings.
Ros Phillips is to retire as Director of the Liverpool Comino Centre. Diane Burton, Dean of the Faculty within John Moore's University in which the Centre is based will lead the Centre in the short term.
Jose Chambers is to have oversight of the links between Universities and Academies and Trusts. All universities are encouraged to have such links.
IGE has extended their personal responsibilities work to prisons where there is activity with Winchester and Ford Open prisons.
The materials on the environment for teachers, as prepared by the Sheffield Comino Centre are complete and available on the Internet at their upd8 website.
The Environment Fellow has prepared an article on 'Climate Change and the Polar Regions' which is on the website.
The 2008 conference for the Comino network will be held in Winchester on 2nd/3rd July 2008
Trustee Meeting 19th March 2008
The Foundation is making a donation towards the Tipton Academy in the West Midlands which is part funded by the RSA.
Sir Mike Tomlinson is Chair of the Board of Governors.
The charity British Edutrust which draws its funds mainly from muslin supporters but is committed to multi religious education intends to build a research centre on the site.
It was noted that all the contracts had been signed for the Tipton Academy, that it will open in September 2008 and move to new buildings in 2010.
It was noted that 50% of Secondary Schools, to date, have applied to deliver the new Science, Mathematics and Humanities diploma.
Trustee Meeting 29th January 2008
The Foundation's Annual Conference would be held on the 2nd and 3rd of July at a venue to be determined.
The five students sent by the Association for Science Education to an international conference in Sydney with their travel part funded by the Foundation had produced an excellent report which illustrated the value of the event to the young people.
Joint working arrangements are developing regarding personal responsibilities between IGE and the Comino Centres.
The Centre for Science Education (also the Sheffield Comino Centre) has been awarded a Government contract to manage a £1.8m project that is designed to help and encourage young people to be attracted to the full range of careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
The cebr report, Switching Lifestyles - Global Growth without Disaster, had been promoted to 180 journalists specialising in environment issues.
